Many brides and grooms believe hiring an amazing entertainer means always having a packed dance floor at their wedding, right? While hiring a professional who is great at music programming, reading a crowd and is good on a microphone is essential, there are more factors to having a large amount of guests dancing the night away.  If having the best reception ever means a lot to you, here are some dos and do not’s for your wedding reception to help you keep your guests focused and having fun.

1. Turn off the T.V.s

Now I know having the football game or the race on the television next to the bar may seem like a great idea, but let me give you some insight. T.V’s are a BIG distraction. Add the fact that most brides and grooms pay for the beer, you have yourself the ultimate tailgate party for your friends and family.

You have invested a lot of time and money finding the right DJ for you, why have that money wasted by turning on the T.V.?

2. Don’t go overkill on the size of the dance floor.

Ever hear the term “size matters”, well, it does. When choosing a venue location, pick out the one that will fit the amount of guests you’ll have. I know this sounds simple but I have entertained for more 200-person weddings in rooms that were better suited for 500!

What this does is it makes the dance floor look uninviting. Even if you have 20 or more people on the floor, a huge dance floor can make it look empty from far away. Most people get nervous when they are one of the few people on the dance floor; they feel that everyone is looking at them, they get nervous and walk off. A smaller dance floor can solve this. It makes it look more inviting.

3. Keep the entertainment as close to the dance floor as possible.

Many times venues will have the dance floors packed with tables to take care of the guests during dinner. This may sometimes cause the DJ booth to be pushed back 5 or sometimes 10 feet from the dance floor. This can make the DJ become disconnected from the audience.  Have a venue walkthrough with the banquet manager and your DJ to come up the best idea for your wedding.

Whenever planning your reception, it is always beneficial to discuss matters over with your DJ. He or she has provided entertainment to hundreds of brides and grooms. They know what works and what don’t. Talking to them will provide peace of mind on your big day!
